Who Can Apply?
- Local civil society organisations in developing countries. (OECD DAC list of developing countries and territories eligible for Official Development Assistance).
- Working groups and networks of civil society organisations working on human rights issues in developing countries.
- In exceptional cases civil society organisations in exile may be supported, and only if their activities are targeted at and carried out in a country eligible for Official Development Assistance.
Organisation may have only one ongoing project funded by KIOS at a time.
Organisations previously funded by KIOS can apply for new funding, but only after the previous project funded by KIOS has been completed. Each application will go through the same assessment process, whether applicant has received previous funding from KIOS or not.
Who Can Not Apply?
KIOS does not provide funding for:
- Individuals
- International non-governmental organisations
- For-profit entities
- Religious communities
- Political parties
- Governmental (whether national or local) bodies
- Exiled civil society organisations based in the Nordic countries

Checklist for Applying
1. Familiarize yourself with the KIOS Application Guide.
2. Download KIOS Application Form or ask for the Application Form by sending us an email at kios@kios.fi.
3. Carefully read through the Application Form Guidelines (attached to the Application Form).
4. Fill in the Application Form.
5. Check that you have attached the required documents to your application: Project Budget, Two Written References, Annual Budget, Statutes or By-laws, Registration Certificate, Annual Report, Latest Audit Reports (from the two previous years). You may also attach other relevant additional documents
6. For the two written references use KIOS reference form.
7. Send the application form and the required documents to KIOS by email and by post.
