Dear partners, colleagues and friends,

The unforeseen coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has caused rapid changes in the societies all over the world. There is a lot of uncertainty about what will happen next, and new government restrictions we did not imagine to happen a while ago have been imposed in many countries.

The health and safety of our partners and their beneficiaries are a key issue for us at KIOS. We encourage our partners to stay safe and take care of yourselves, your team, your families and communities. Please follow the advice of your government and of the WHO on how we can all act to reduce the spread of the virus.

We are all affected by the coronavirus crisis in different ways. We know that it is the most vulnerable and marginalized who will suffer the most as the virus is sweeping across our societies. Many of the organisations KIOS funds work in the countryside or among marginalized groups, with limited access to health care.

The pandemic will seriously affect the possibilities of doing human rights work. The response to these challenges differs in each country and for each partner. In this challenging time we at KIOS understand that the needs and priorities of our partners are changing rapidly, and we aim to be as flexible as possible when it comes to adjusting project activities. We believe that our partners are the ones who know what will work best for their organisation and the communities they serve. KIOS is working to find different ways to limit the consequences of the COVID-19 crisis for our partners. During the next few weeks our staff will be in touch with each of our partners to understand their needs and to see how we can provide support in the best way possible.

Stay safe and take care!

The KIOS team
